I want to remember how beautiful the weather was. Sunny and warm with a breeze. The ocean was still warm enough for the boys to splash around in the surf. The sand was hot from the sun. The clouds were white and puffy and moved across the sky making ever changing pictures that G and I watched while Nathan slept on the blanket next to us and the boys waded in the tidal pools of Gray's Beach. I couldn't have wished for more perfect weather for this trip.
I want to remember the joy. So many giggles and squeals from the four boys as the rode the surf in at Sea Street Beach. Screams of excitement as Andrew, Justin and Evan played with three baby bath toy boats for half an hour, throwing the boats in the surf and watching them wash back up on the shore. The yells of happiness at Pirates Cove mini golf as they made their way around the 18 hole course. Justin didnt want to complete one of the holes because it was a jump and he was afraid of losing his ball. Andrew dumping a load of sand from his bathing suit only to discover a sand flea ALIVE inside!
I want to remember the feeling of peace. Sitting in the sand watching the boys all play, explore and enjoy themselves so completely and independently it occurred to me how peaceful I felt. I will miss the sound of the ocean until next summer.
I want to remember the discovery. Finding our way to a new ice cream shop on foot through the Cape streets. My boys catching over a hundred hermit crabs on the tidal pools. Nathan holding them with no fear, pushing them around in his dump truck in the shallow waters. Evan scooping up minnows with his net, one after another, like he had been doing it his whole life. He caught 12 fish! Walking the long pier with Justin holding my hand, enjoying the beauty and peace of the ocean alone with him. Counting the planks, losing count, going back, estimating over 1600 planks on the pier.
I want to remember it all because it was perhaps two of my favorite days not only this summer but always...

Camping Photos
Im behind on picture posting! I have so much to share. First, the camping pictures. Now, I realize when people think of camping, they think of tents and roughing it. When I think of that type of camping I panic. That's not my style. I prefer camping in a cabin with a door and some running water (also: a fridge, toilet, shower, mattress, electricity, heat and AC). My type of camping is like vacationing with a little less frills.
It was alot of fun. The kids loved the novelty of staying in the cabin, roasting marshmallows, being up past their bedtime, glowsticks and campfires. It was the perfect re-introduction to camping for them. We actually had been to this same campground 4 years ago when Evan was Nathan's exact age. I remember it being fun and easy but a great way to bond with the kids and enjoy outdoor time. And I remembered right! It was a great way to cap off the summer.
There was a splash park, water slides, pool and beach at the campground. The boys got alot of water play in. Luckily it was just warm enough for the water. At night the temps got cooooolllld so the water wasn't very warm, but, the kids still enjoyed it.
G grilling outside our cabin. Each cabin had a picnic table on the deck for dining which was really nice.
Inside the cabin we had a sink, microwave, stove (but no oven) and full sized fridge.
There was a full sized bed in the kitchen area.
And two sets of bunk beds in a separate room with a door where the boys slept. Nathan did really well in the bed which was surprising. He is still in a crib at home, so I wasnt sure how it would go, but, he stayed in there all night.
Justin and Sophia playing our new favorite game, Yamslam, during lunch.
The cabins were on a dead end road, so the kids got to ride scooters and bikes up and down in front of the cabins during the day and evening.
Two of my girlfriends and their families stayed in the two cabins next to us. These are the three cabins on the road in a row.
Nathan scootering. He is impressive on that thing!!!
Walking to the Splash park.
Making smores around the campfire.
Justin decided the first night it was too smokey (it was windy and the smoke was blowing in his face) so he wore his swimming goggles to roast his marshmallows. Obviously.
YUM.
YUM.
The kids in front of the Yogi statue.
Nathan checking Yogi Bear's mail.
The flag raising ceremony each morning with the characters.
Our cabin.
A water gun fight between Sophia and Justin.
Justin and Sophia spent a couple hours working on a sand castle/fort and wanted to get their picture taken with it. It was really nice having Sophia there because she is Justin's age, and they got along so well. It was great for him to have a friend to hang out with. They spent alot of time together playing.
Nathan was the only one interested in going to meet Cindy bear. Cute!!!
Candy bar bingo was a big hit of the camping trip, the older kids all went while the younger kids were napping at the cabins. Between the three moms and the four kids, we managed to win! We walked away more than doubling our candy bars - good thing too because we needed them for smores that night!
Playing more Yamslam.
Riding more bikes.
Nathan, Ryan and Ellie playing Hotwheels on a chalk road we made.
Nathan taking the stroller for a walk.
Evan playing baseball, no surprise there.
The campground had a tiny arcade the kids insisted on going to.
Even the big kids enjoyed it :)
Roasting marshmallows take 2. Tonight it wasnt as windy, so no goggles for Justin.
All the kids (minus Bella).
Our family.

These First Few Days
The whole atmosphere of our home has changed in the last couple days. A quiet has settled over the house, enveloping it in calmness. I can feel the house sighing as it exhales and releases all that craziness that three boys 24/7 bring to it. I'm sighing and releasing some stress too. I love my boys and feel incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to be home with them and watch them grow being a stay at home mom. I love the chaos of three loud, wild boys (and chaos is probably an understatement). But, like any job, everyone needs a vacation. The older boys returning to school full time is my "vacation".
Im delighting in spending so much time with Nathan. It was rare that Nathan and I got to have one on one time together before now. He is such a fabulous little boy. Im enjoying being able to do things with one child that I didnt get to do leisurely with the three boys this summer. Like trips to the grocery store, making dinner less harried, cleaning the house top to bottom, running errands. Quite a vacation, no?
But, aside from the mundane things, there are so many wonderful things. Like building forts, listening to Nathan's little ideas come out of him uninterrupted, crafts with him, relaxing in the yard, having play dates with friends just for Nathan.
Here is the fort Nathan made for himself.
This is the dinner I made for my sister's birthday during Nathan's nap. I love making food. I love it even more when its uninterrupted by children :)
Happy birthday Laura!!!
